There is no dearth of donors in India. Whether it is to give corporate donations through Corporate Social Responsibility. Or else or a common person donate. Through fundraising, the Ketto Organization has transformed the lives of millions of people. Ketto Organization In conversation with Varun Sheth, Founder, and CEO of.
You are very welcome Varun Ji, my first question in The CSR Journal is that the Ketto Organization has changed the lives of millions of people through fundraising. Ketto organization is bringing big changes in society through social causes. Be it in the medical field or social, how does the ketto organization work?
First of all, many thanks to The CSR Journal for giving me this opportunity. Ketto is such an organization that we started 8 years ago. We established Ketto in the year 2012. From day one, our aim was to gather people from all over the country and the whole world and give them a platform. How to help people, how to reach the needy, that too through the internet. I was born and brought up in India, because of which people are suffering in India. I know very well what the challenges are here. India is progressing continuously in every sense, but still, there are problems in many respects. Some people of the society are getting left behind. They are not getting help. It was a passion for me to help people with education, for health care. With this thinking, we all started Ketto and saw that there are many NGOs in the country. There are non-profit organizations that need a lot of help with fundraising. They are not using the right technique. There is no transparency. Unable to build credibility and with the thought of helping, we started Ketto and are happy to share that Ketto has helped a lot of people.
If we believe the figures, till now Ketto Organization has helped 55 lakh people, 11 thousand crore people have directly helped the needy through Kettos. How far is this journey going to go? At present, most of you people are working in the medical field. Working for social causes. What is the process to get crowdfunding?
Our process is very simple. Whoever needs the funds, whether they have medical treatment, cancer treatment, or surgery. Any NGO that has fund requirements can visit our website. www.ketto.org, there is a big button there. Click on Start a Fundraiser. Fill out the form with details. Once you fill out the form, our team will contact you. We will verify that all is well then your fundraiser will be approved and once fundraising is approved then you will be able to do fundraising. We accept all payment forms. Whether it is UPI, net banking or debit card, or credit card. You will be given a login, you will be able to see in that login how much money was collected for you, which people donated to you. How much donation is coming to you, where is it coming from, who is giving, you will be able to get complete information in log in?
In which field do most people seek fundraising? What are the social causes for which you do fundraising?
The medical field is the biggest. Because we spend the most money on health services in our country. Our country has the largest number of under health insurance. We are working mostly on the medical side. Most people come for medical help. At the same time, people are donating money in the medical field on an equally large scale. People correlate themselves with medicine. For example, if someone in my house has cancer, then we can understand very well the pain and lack of money. Therefore, understanding the suffering of others, people donate. After the medical field, people donate the most in the education field. The animal cause is the third largest field after education. There are many people who do fundraising to save the lives of animals, to set up centers for them. Animal welfare is also the biggest cause for special dogs. A lot of people give money to help dogs in Tier One cities. Women empowerment also comes under these social causes. We also do fundraising for women's empowerment. Women's empowerment also matters a lot in our country. We are also working continuously to give equal opportunities to women as to men.
Who are the people in the society who give charity to you? Do you take donations from minimum to maximum Rs? Can an ordinary person donate to you and can corporates also donate through Corporate Social Responsibility?
First of all, let us tell you that we only accept online transactions. Whoever pays online is our audience. People who are low-income, students, or any common citizen, can make any donation. People can also donate ₹ 1 and those who are millionaires who are now people can also come and donate to us. This platform is for everyone. You can support any call. If you think that I should help them, then you can help them with ₹ 10 and you can also help them by giving a maximum of Rs.
We are seeing that the corporates of the country are proving to be very helpful in this Corona period. Lakhs of crores of rupees are being spent on the public through CSR funds. Do you also get CSR funds?
Most of the corporate don't donate by visiting our website. Because corporates work on long-term goals and agendas. Corporates work for three-four years on any cause. The money that corporates give under CSR is also on a very large scale. Our website is not like this, there are more people on our website who give charity on their own level, alone. There are common citizens on our website who come forward and help people.
You provide a platform for fundraising. People come to you and their lives change. Mostly you are working in the medical field. Helping people is a pleasure in itself, you must have had satisfaction?
Every month we have a meeting of our team and we share happiness in that meeting. That is, our frontline workers tell us what is happening. To whom has the help reached? To which people, how much money was helped? How much money has been collected through our website? I would like to tell that before Kovid-19, when our office was open, people used to come here to say thank you. They got money on time, they saved their lives, so they used to come here to thank, to celebrate, to cut their child's cake. They used to get so much happiness that their children were treated through us. . He got a liver transplant, treatment was done, cancer treatment was done, he got another chance of life. Our happiness lies in their happiness. There is great excitement for us to meet him.
I would like you to share this happiness with us too, you tell us how any case that has come to your office, met you people, said thank you to you.
There was a patient named Karthik, his age was 4 years. He had a liver disease since he was born. Karthik used to be very ill. He had to undergo some treatment. One day the doctor said that his liver was damaged and he needed a liver transplant. This is three or four years old. Their parents came to know about us, then they shared the information on our website for crowdfunding. Surprisingly, people extended their helping hand to such an extent that in three-four days ₹ 22 lakh was collected. Karthik was from a very poor family. He was treated for a year and when he recovered, was discharged from the hospital, he told his mother that I want to celebrate my birthday with Ketto. Then she and her mother came here. Then we did his cake cutting, then his mother told us that he could not play, he could not walk. When the doctor spoke about liver transplants, he was not able to understand anything. Because money was needed on such a large scale, there was no money and now his son plays with other children, goes out. He got a new life. We like that we can come to someone's work.
How did you guys work during the covid era? Because Kovid-19 affected every single life, people lost their jobs, there were food problems, was there a need for fund racing during this too?
Fund racing was in the highest demand in the month of March during Corona. Because many people lost their jobs, in such a situation, the need for food became the most. For three to four months, the fundraising was just for feeding. We all saw the plight of migrant laborers during the Corona period. Fundraising was also done for migrant laborers. Fundraising took place for him to return to his homeland, to go to his village. During this, many such funds were racing which became critical cases in Kovid-19. The patient had to go to the ICU, people did fundraising for the ICU. In Kovid-19, we raised at least Rs 115 crore fund.
Thank you very much Varun Ji for talking to The CSR Journal. Really, you guys are doing a great job through Ketto Organization and keep working like this continuously and keep bringing smiles to people's faces and changes in their life. Thank you very much.
