Hair donation Organizations
Giving something to someone is good for you. If you donate to someone, you will also get help at your peril. By donating hair, a patient will get a new life.
Background:
In Switzerland, patients who permanently lose their hair as a result of illness or treatment are entitled to financial compensation: in the event of illness, the AI reimburses 1,500 francs per year up to AVS age, then the AVS reimburses 1000 francs per year from 64 or 65 years for a wig or scarves.
Patients can choose hair donation organizations for their wig themselves in a specialist shop, where it will be adapted according to their wishes and the shape of their head. Most of the time, cancer patients only need a wig for a certain period of time and generally prefer synthetic wigs. These are of good quality and it is difficult to distinguish them from a natural hair wig. These wigs are lightweight, easy to wear and maintain, and they cost less than real hair wigs.
This is why human hair wigs are no longer used and manufactured in Switzerland today, the high production costs also being the cause. We know several manufacturers (see below).
General information on hair donation:
If you are still thinking of donating your hair, it must meet certain quality requirements in order to be used in the manufacture of wigs. The cut hair should be arranged in the Remy orientation, i.e. with the tips on one side and the cut ends on the other. If the hair is mixed, its cuticles will rub against each other and catch between them (like two pine cones arranged in opposite directions), which will create knots. Hair kept without respecting the Remy orientation can no longer be detangled or treated afterward.
Please follow these instructions: before cutting, tie your hair in a ponytail, form a braid, and tie the end, then cut the hair just above the braid. In this way, the hair will not be able to tangle or form knots. In principle, dyed, bleached or permed hair cannot be used. A single donation of hair is not enough to make a wig: several are needed, because each head of hair contains shorter hair, which cannot be used.
Choose a hairstylist you trust to get your hair cut. If your hair meets the criteria mentioned above, you can send it to a wigmaker of your choice according to the list below:
This training and development center specializes in the manufacture of natural hair wigs, which are made directly in the center's workshop. The Masken Werkstatt Schweiz workshop requires a minimum hair length of 35 cm and asks donors to provide their email addresses for sending the thank you letter.

You learn from the wigmaker if your hair donation will be financially compensated and if so, how it will be. The Swiss Cancer League assumes no responsibility for this.
This list brings together the manufacturers of wigs known to the League Against Cancer so far. As needed, this list of addresses and the related texts are updated.
