Donation Related Question & Answers

Questions and Answers

1. Can I use donations from my Facebook fundraiser for MJF / PMJF?

Donations to Facebook fundraisers are not automatically credited to your or the fundraiser's MJF / PMJF account unless the donor contacts LCIF. When you conduct Facebook fundraisers that support LCIF, you must send a copy of the donation receipt to LCIF Donor Services, donor assistance @ lions clubs, in order for the donation to be credited. If you support someone else's Facebook fundraiser for LCIF and would like your donation credited to your or the organizer's MJF / PMJF account, please send a copy of your donation receipt to donorassistance@lionsclubs.org.

2. Is my SMS donation credited to MJF / PMJF?

At present, only individuals in the Constitutional Area can make donations via SMS. Your generous donation does not automatically count towards MJF / PMJF, but if you enter your membership number and club name, the donation can easily be registered for MJF / PMJF. If you do not include your club name and/or membership number, you must contact LCIF via donorassistance@lionsclubs.org and enclose a copy of the donation receipt.

3. I'm interested in making a donation to LCIF. What opportunities are there?

Donations can be made by an individual or in another person's name. We offer many forms of recognition and awards. For information on the donations that can be made to LCIF and recognition programs, visit the section on different ways to give on the website.

4. What is the donation process?

Donations can be made at www.lcif.org/donate or sent to LCIF.

All checks must be in US dollars, drawn at a US bank, and sent to:

      Lions Clubs International Foundation

      Department 4547

      Carol Stream, IL 60122, USA

Bank transfers should be sent to:

      JP Morgan Chase, NA

      10 S. Dearborn Street

      Chicago, IL 60603

      ABA number 021000021

Account name: Lions Clubs International Foundation

      Account number: 754487312

      Swift code: CHASUS33

In countries where LCI has bank accounts, funds can be deposited in local currency. Be sure to check the organization's official exchange rates shown on the club's monthly statement. When submitting funds via a local deposit, it is important to fax or send a letter or e-mail to LCIF with a copy of the bank's deposit receipt and information regarding to who the donation will be credited.

If funds meet the criteria for the Melvin Jones Fellowship (donations made to public funds to support young people, meet humanitarian needs, provide disaster relief, preserve vision, and to areas of greatest need), MJF recognition can be obtained. The normal processing time for MJF is two to four weeks. Many countries may charge customs duties and VAT for the import of MJF plaques or other recognition and awards. The responsibility for these fees lies with the person or local club that receives the items.

5. Do donations finance administrative costs or do 100 percent of the donations go to relief efforts?

Financial responsibility and transparency are important to LCIF. LCIF continues to ensure that all donated funds are used effectively, in order to help even more people. Donations fund long- and short-term program costs, including grants. Based on the expected return on investments, the return on investments is expected to be sufficient to cover the expected costs of administration and development costs.

6. How does LCIF compare to other charities?

LCIF is proud of its many years of history with high-quality projects. LCIF stands for Quality (Effective Programs with Excellent Follow-Up), is effective and unique (the only Lions foundation to help the world). In fact, the foundation has been named the foremost non-profit organization to work with by the Financial Times.

LCIF donors can be confident that their donations will be used to support the programs for which they are intended. Learn more about our rating at Charity Navigator.

7. How can I learn more about LCIF: financial efficiency?

We appreciate the opportunity to give you more information about our finances and programs. You can read our latest annual report. For more information on previous years' finances, read our revised financial statements, or LCIF's tax return (Form 990).

8. What types of recognition are there?

There are several different types of recognition depending on the type of donation that has been made. This acknowledgment is sent to the donor. Note that many countries may charge customs duties and VAT for importing plaques. The responsibility for these fees lies with the person or local club that receives the plaque.

9. Can a donation be earmarked for a specific purpose or project through LCIF? If so, can I receive the Melvin Jones Fellowship (MJF) for my donation?

LCIF asks all donors to donate to the Force in relief efforts, which means a donation to Campaign 100 that supports all of LCIF's issues or to Disaster Relief, which also means a donation to Campaign 100, but which is intended only for disaster relief. Unfortunately, LCIF is unable to accept donations for specific local projects. However, the foundation supports many Lions projects and initiatives through grant programs for projects that meet the eligibility criteria.

10. Can an award, such as the Melvin Jones Fellowship, be sent out before LCIF has received the donation?

LCIF's board policy requires that the donation be received at headquarters before acknowledgment can be sent out. To be sure that the treatment goes quickly and that the acknowledgment is sent out quickly, the necessary documentation must be included, for example, a completed application form for the Melvin Jones Fellowship.

11. Should grant be collected and sent to LCIF from time to time?

Donations should be sent without delay. This allows the donor's information to be kept up to date and the LCIF to send recognition and awards. In addition, checks can become too old so a new check from the donor is sometimes required.

12. How should donations be sent?

In the United States, it is best to send a personal check or bank. Checks sent from countries outside the United States must be in US dollars and drawn at a US bank, which speeds up processing and reduces high international bank charges. Checks should be sent to LCIF's mailbox address, not LCIF's physical address. In countries where LCI or LCIF have bank accounts, funds can be deposited in local currency at an equivalent value in USD corresponding to the current amount. You will then use Lion's official exchange rate listed on the club's monthly statement. A copy of the bank receipt must be sent to LCIF together with completed donation forms. Fax or send the documentation to LCIF Donor Services.

13. To whom should check to be exhibited?

Checks will be exhibited at LCIF. State the purpose of the donation, such as "Melvin Jones Fellowship/recipient's name", "club plaque", "36 supporting members", "to Melvin Jones Fellowship", etc.).

14. Can I pay my donation with my credit card?

LCIF can accept donations made with credit cards from Visa, MasterCard, American Express, and Discover. Donations can be made safely and quickly on the website. Do not accept credit card donations by phone. If you need help making a donation on the website, contact the Donor Assistance department.

15. What is LCIF's refund policy?

Refunds of donations can be made within 30 days after the donation has been processed. Refunds will be sent in the same way as the original donation was made. Credit card donations will be returned to the credit card originally used. Please contact LCIF Donor Services for more information by calling 630-203-3836 or emailing donorassistance@lionsclubs.org.

16. Can you get donation reports from LCIF?

The types of reports available are listed on the website and can be ordered from Donor Assistance.
